Have you noticed that we share individual questions on our website homepage and on our social media channels? These are called engagement questions, and they differ from traditional research questions. Continue reading to learn more about differentiating between these types of questions.
The surveys we send you by email contain research questions, which are usually commissioned by clients. Your responses to research questions are combined with all other completed surveys, carefully weighted, and analyzed by our researchers so the results we share with clients reflect the target population’s views as accurately as possible. Our clients include businesses, household brands, government bodies, not-for-profit organizations, and the media. In other words, research questions are the “important” ones in the sense that your responses are contributing to valid research that makes a difference for clients and society.
Engagement questions include the Quick Polls we post on our website home page and the polls/questions we ask on our social media pages. These questions are random, (hopefully) fun, and are not part of larger research projects. You also don’t access them through a survey link like you would research questions. We use engagement questions in different ways: for example, they’re great for starting discussions, they help the people who visit our website or social media pages learn more about each other, and sometimes we just want to brighten everyone’s day. Clients don’t have access to engagement question data and we don’t formally publish the results, it’s all just for fun! As with any of our questions, if you don’t feel like responding, you don’t have to. No hard feelings!
We hope this helps make a distinction between questions that are part of research studies and those that are “just for fun”. If you have any other survey-related questions, let us know and we will be happy to answer them!
